Online referencing platform, Referoo, has selected HooYu to provide digital identity verification services for users requiring Right to Work and criminal record checks solutions.

New legislation, which came into force on 6th April 2022, allows organisations to conduct identity checks for DBS and Right to Work screening using digital identity verification technology (IDVT).

Businesses were authorised to check identity documents remotely during the pandemic, but this temporary measure is due to come an end later this month. The deadline for adoption of the new practices is September 30th. After this date, firms face having to return to manual checks if they have not secured a Digital Identity Service Provider (IDSP) to ensure their digital checks comply with the new law.

HooYu was one of the first IDSPs to become certified to provide these services through the UK government Digital Identity Certification Scheme (DICS).

Historically, criminal record and Right to Work identity checks have been completed manually, with physical evidence and paper documents needing to be presented in person by applicants. But digital identity verification technology (IDVT) has many advantages over manual checks; it enables checks to be conducted more rigorously and reliably, at greater speed, and with increased security.

Digital identity verification is also typically less labour-intensive than manual checks and complements remote working practices, meaning greater comfort and convenience for both employers and applicants.

The Referoo platform is designed to provide users with a complete, secure and fast solution to the problem of verifying the authenticity of a reference. HooYu technology is therefore a great fit for Referoo, allowing Referoo customers to achieve results at greater speed and ease, and with greater confidence in the identities of their candidates.

“Hooyu has an inspiring vision for the future of IDVT and an amazing team to make it happen. Their digital right to work solution is elegant and simple but what drove us to partner with Hooyu was their excellent customer service and commitment to providing an effective, seamless, and friction free candidate journey, which is what Referoo is all about.”

Neil Rose, CEO and co-founder, Referoo

David Pope, HooYu Marketing Director added: “We are delighted that Referoo have chosen to partner with HooYu. Referoo work hard to help clients achieve reference checks with a high degree of accuracy, without compromising on the user experience. At HooYu we share those preoccupations. Integrating HooYu technology will enable Referoo customers to feel confident in the Right to Work status and criminal background of those they are vetting, while experiencing a smooth, friction-free screening journey.”
